About me

"Cindy Loya is a Mixed Media artist of Mexican American heritage. Having spent her formative years in Mexico, she now calls the Denver Metro area home, where she creates her art. Her work draws inspiration from the complexities of being Mexican American, feminist themes, and the beauty of nature.

Utilizing an array of mediums including paint, paper, textiles, and digital tools for illustrations, Cindy weaves together diverse elements in her art. Her pieces serve as storytelling devices, bridging connections to heritage and community, inspiring others to engage with their roots through artistic expression."

My artistic narrative is a retrospective voyage through my Mexican American identity within the context of two distinct countries. Born in California in 1984, my early years were woven between the cultural tapestries of both nations. At age 5, we relocated to Mexico, where I spent 12 formative years before returning to the United States.

My art encapsulates the essence of duality, a recurring motif mirroring my bicultural upbringing. It serves as a conduit for processing my personal history, offering a platform to share my narrative. Utilizing fabric as a canvas and thread as a drawing tool infuses my work with an intimate portrayal of my Mexican American layers.

While my story isn't unique, its nuances echo the experiences of many navigating dual identities through their immigration stories. Beyond my fabric paintings, my exploration extends to drawing, specifically delving into the multifaceted experiences of womanhood. Through evocative imagery of women, nature, and hearts, I craft a visual narrative resonating with themes of empowerment and struggle.

My art, a fusion of personal history and universal themes, aims to bridge connections and evoke recognition among those embracing their own duality and diverse experiences.
